I love this quote for so many reasons. It actually made me think about what I’ve learned the last few years when I decided that I needed to travel and explore the world we live in a bit more.
Whenever I travel, I always come back home with so many new thoughts on life. It changes my perspective in a very profound way.
So, I wanted to share a few thoughts on what travel has taught me.
*We are all the same. We may look different, dress differently, have slightly different views and or values, but essentially we are all the same. Beauty is everywhere, and we should celebrate those differences. They’re what makes us unique.
*There isn’t just one way of doing things. The more we try to understand each other, the more harmony we create for ourselves and the people around us. Just because we have been taught that things are supposed to be a certain way, doesn’t mean it’s the only right way. There are many ways to do things, so when we realize this, we feel more at ease.
*Never take anything for granted. Be thankful for basic necessities, a roof over your head, electricity, food and safety. My visit to the refugee camp in Zakho, Northern Iraq really opened my eyes to this in a whole new way. (I will write a more in depth blog post about my day there soon.) In our daily lives, we tend to forget about these basic things, but feeling safe in our home and country, having access to clean food and clothes is luxury in a lot of places in this world.
*I’ve learned more about life, people, cultures, and the world through traveling than any book I’ve ever read. There is no better way to learn about people and different cultures than to actually experience it. Go out there and explore! You will never regret booking a ticket to go somewhere new. The memories will last a lifetime.
